The Suicide Squad in a Billboard!

The Challenge

The Suicide Squad: A high energy, superhero comedy. The sequel to Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. (distributors) wanted to create a dramatic OOH piece which showcased the drama and brought this to life as part of their Outdoor Strategy.

Our challenge: how can we bring this to life, dial up the SfX and provide an entertaining teaser to the film’s launch?

The Execution

Combining a bespoke 2.5D 48 sheet billboard with cutouts and graphics from the ATL creative, a theatrical SfX scenic programme of smoke, light and sound and excerpts from the film score we created a jaw-dropping installation.

The installation had two states. The first was a holding state which introduced subtle SfX and audio. Then, every 30min, the billboard would come to life with a dramatic two minute show which built to a crescendo of audio, lights, smoke and faux ‘fire’ effects.

The creation of The Suicide Squad billboard required the collaboration of theatrical effects partners. Taking weeks to prepare, the lighting and smoke show was carefully choreographed to a bespoke edit of the soundtrack.

The Outcome

The Suicide Square OOH installation provided the perfect enhancement to the broader outdoor campaign. Running over three days it attracted non-stop attention from passers-by, all excited to stop and chat with our team of trained Brand Ambassadors about the new release. Providing a disruptive two minute Sfx experience twice an hour, it attracted crowds and built hype and excitement in the build up to the movie’s release.
