The Challenge
The launch of the BBC Sounds App, taking the place of the BBC iPlayer Radio App, marked a crucial shift in adoption of streaming services across the UK. Our challenge was to spread the message of the new app by raising awareness and driving app downloads across the length and breadth of the UK.
The Execution
The BBC Sounds Headphones were designed to create an engaging installation.
Fully working giant headphones supplied the soundtrack for this engaging tour of the country. People could explore the app on an iPad to select a track. Standing between the giant headphones they listened, danced, sang and captured some fun content.
To sweeten the experience and encourage downloads, customers with the new BBC Sounds App on their phones were rewarded with a free pair of BBC Sounds headphones.
The Outcome
During the campaign the BBC Sounds Headphones provided the centrepiece to a series of PR activations which received coverage by a number of influencers and publications.
The experience led to nearly 10,000 app downloads.
The headphones were so popular they have continued to be toured to cities and festivals across the country.
